I don't get to make cakes for boys as often as I would like, so when I got the order to make this cake I was very excited because I love working with bright colors and I love Mickey Mouse.
I buy the fondant already colored to avoid kneading and adding air to it, besides it is really hard to accomplish dark colors. I am not saying it can't be done, I have done it for smaller amounts of fondant but when you have to use big quantities of fondant might as well get it in the color you need.
Do you have a particular brand that you like?
I love Satin Ice, but I have heard wonderful things about Fondarific, for sure I have to try it one of these days.
These is nothing too new in terms of design with this Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake, pretty much all cakes I have seem follow the same standard Clubhouse as the TV show.
To make the Mickey silhouette, I traced the shape using a Mickey cookie cutter and then I enlarge it. I rolled the fondant a little tick and then I let it set for a few minutes before tracing the shape with an exacto knife.
I used different sizes of cutters to cut the stars and for the hand I used oval cutters.
I hand cut the yellow door and clouds.
My client provided me with all the plastic figures.
I normally do not use any plastic details/figures in cakes, I rather make then in fondant but when in comes to characters and these many figures plastic is good to me.
I hope you all are having a wonderful week.
