Although I am not a huge fan of hot dogs, my kiddos LOVE them! During the summer months, we have them about once or twice a month - maybe more if we have company over for a cookout. My family is quite content with the regular toppings .... ketchup, mustard and maybe sweet pickle relish. However, I am not okay with just those toppings!

I have been known to put coleslaw on my hot dogs ... or sauerkraut, taco fixings, pulled pork ... and I've even added pineapple. Not all at once, obviously. That would be gross. I have topped them with beans and avocados. I have even smothered them with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheese. I've wrapped them in bacon and topped them with whatever kinds of things I think sound good at the time .... you get the idea - no boring dogs for me.

One of my favorite toppings is chili dog sauce. I do not like that canned stuff - it just looks too weird for me, so I make my own. I know, it's not exactly ground-breaking - but it is one of the few things I just don't mess with. Sorta. Here's the thing ... I like my chili dog sauce extra meaty with very little "sauce." I know some of y'all won't agree with me and that's okay - but I also know that some of y'all are in agreement with me. That's why you are here after all! :)

So, this sauce is super easy to make. You can pretty much make it in the time it takes to heat up the grill and cook your hot dogs - or if you prefer the boiling on the stovetop method, you're still gonna have an awesomely delish sauce in time for dinner! You can cook the liquid down in this sauce to the consistency your family likes - I like my liquid mostly gone with just enough sauce to flavor the meat. But do whatever works for you and your tastes! Let's do this ....
