Hickory Dickory Dock...
I saw a cake based on the nursery rhyme and I thought it was the perfect inspiration to make a candy cake for this New Years Eve. The cake is made using Strawberry cake, vanilla buttercream and marshmallow fluff, top it of with lots of candy and gum and I can assure you that you are going to be up until midnight...or maybe the next day.

Look at the delicious pieces of fresh Strawberry puree.

I was so excited  to get a Candy Kit from Wrigley, they have partnered with Amy Atlas to show all candy lovers all the amazing things you can do with candy, from decorating cookies, cupcakes and cakes to candy buffet tables. Candy projects are so easy to make, and the best part is that you can eat your crafty project when you are done.
This cake clock was very easy to make, I think it will be a fun and delicious dessert on your New Years Eve dinner. Since I covered most of the cake with candy, I didn't fill it with buttercream, I think you have plenty of yummy sugar in the outside.

To make the clock you will need the following:

.3 packets of Vortex™ green apple gum
.5 packs of Skittles® Blenders ( I only used green apple freeze, melon berry and cherry tropicolada)
.7 sticks of Wrigley's BigRed® cinnamon gum
.4 pieces of Orbit® strawberry remix
.round cookie cutter

.Small rolling pin
.White fondant
.cake flavor of your choice
.buttercream of your choice
.small number cutters
.red royal icing
.cake board
.marshmallow fluff

Instructions:

-Bake your cake and let it cool to room temperature, then put in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. A cool cake is easier to cut and you will have less crumbs.
-Use a round cake board to cut a semi circle in one end of the square cake.
-Cut two wedges off at the opposite side of the square cake.
-Place the cake on the cake board and cover the cake with buttercream. I found easier to crumb coat the cake, left in the refrigerator for 1/2 hour and then frost the cake with buttercream, but since you are going to cover most of the cake with candy, you do not need to have a 'perfect' smooth buttercream .
-Cover the cake board with marshmallow fluff .It will look sticky at the beggining but after a few minutes it will have a nice shiny finish

-Use the Vortex™ green apple gum around the cake as shown in picture, you do not need to stick it with water, the buttercream will act as "glue"

Photobucket

-Attach green apple freeze Skittles® Blenders around the top of the cake
-Using Vortex™ green apple gum and a small knife cut shapes until you form the pendulum's window.
-Attach them to the cake

Photobucket
-Roll white fondant and cut a circle using a round cookie cutter a little smaller than the semicircle on the cake
-Attach to cake

Photobucket

-Place another layer of  Skittles® Blenders ( melon berry) around the top of the cake

Photobucket

-Cut numbers for the clock using the small number cutters and a few sticks of Wrigley's BigRed® cinnamon gum

Photobucket
-Place a red  Skittles® in the center of the clock and pipe the clock hands with red royal icing
-Pipe clock's pendulum

-Following the above pictorial make the mouse.
-Place mouse on the cake and attach the tail. I used a long skinny piece of Wrigley's BigRed® cinnamon gum for the mouse's tail
