We found these two images of the Donna Summer cake Hansen's made for her record launch. The founder of Casablanca records, Neil Bogart, came in and talked to Gary Hansen. Neil had no money, but two fledgling acts, Donna Summer and Kiss. Mr. Hansen let him open an account and they worked for the next few years with listening parties and record launches. The Donna Summer cake was a pipe-on and was a collaborative effort between a decorator named Don and Mr. Hansen. Casablanca Records paid for two first class plane tickets for the cake and had two people escort the cake to New York. |
