If you've been a Love Bakes Good Cakes reader for awhile, you may remember THIS POST where I talk about how my family has faced homelessness and struggled with food insecurity. It's an issue that is very near and dear to my heart because of things that have happened in my life.
Unfortunately, as a society, we often dismiss hunger as a third world problem. Did you know that 1 in 5 children in America lives in households without consistent access to adequate food? We all should want to help improve this number. 3 out of 5 K-8 public school teachers report regularly seeing students coming to school hungry and adding to that, 10 million children - nearly half of eligible children do not receive free or reduced-price school breakfast. Hearing things like this makes me question what we could be doing to help ...
In Partnership with Safeway, Hunger Is is focusing on expanding breakfast programs, providing children with a healthy start to their day. Make Breakfast Happen So Kids Can Be Hungry For More! This program is designed to raise awareness and funds to improve healthy outcomes for hungry children and their families; specifically focusing on expanding breakfast programs. Let's be honest ... it's hard to sit still or focus when your body is telling you it needs something to eat! Shopping at your local Safeway is a great way to help!!
There are two ways you can participate! One - Purchase participating items (*purchase of participating items in September 2016 will trigger at least $0.10 donation up to $1 million nationally) – Look for tags on participating items in-store. Two - Donate at the register – shoppers can add a $1, $3, or $5, or any $ amount to their purchase. Here's how easy this campaign is - by purchasing products you probably already use and love, you will be making an impact! If you want to donate more at the register, you can!
Below, you will find the participating products - many of them, you probably already use and love! Why not support Hunger Is through product purchases you would normally make ... and consider an extra donation in the amount of your choice at the register!
